Day 15: Lake Annecy
Day 15: Lake Annecy
We started the day the way all great days should start: with crepes. I took the boys for a quick bite, enjoying a gluten free crepe myself while the boys experienced authentic French crepes for the first time. One thing I am pleasantly shocked by is that the gluten free movement has impacted Europe, and there have been so many options for me here which have been helpful and fun!
Aaron did a little morning work and then met us at the bike rental, Cyclable Annecy. They hooked us up with four great bikes, and we headed out for our road trip up the lake. I turned my Spotify on with some great tunes, and sped up the side of the lake for an hour, admiring the breathtaking views. Aaron and I kept looking at each other and saying, “Is this our life? This is incredible!”
We stopped at the darling city of Duingt, nearly halfway around the lake, and grabbed a drink at a cute biker’s spot called Le Bon Wagon. There are small villages and beaches roughly every 3 kilometers around the lake, and it’s tempting to stop regularly. While in Duingt, we picked up groceries for a baguette and cheese lunch, and then hauled it back as fast as we could to Annecy, making record time. Zachary got his second wind, and led the way!
Gelato was a must after our hot ride. We stopped for a double scoop, a quick grocery run for snacks, and a change of clothes into our bathing suits. We then ventured back to the lake and rented a boat for an hour, swimming in the crisp teal alpine waters while admiring the views. Having been overheated for days, Mom was the first one in the lake!
We returned home to make dinner, and the boys watched a movie. Our apartment is on the fourth floor of a restaurant, so we let the boys enjoy their film while we walked downstairs for a drink, alone. We sat at a table right by the entrance to our apartment, feeling safe and relaxed. We looked into each other’s eyes and said, “Hi!” Parenting two rowdy boys from 7am until 10 or 11pm every day for fifteen days has caught up with us.
We went down for a glass of wine, and left after splitting Le Faux Filet with a superb butter sauce, pommes frites, and two glasses of wine each. The owners carefully tended to us and we enjoyed chatting with them. On his way home, while I was tucking the boys into bed, Aaron ordered a to-go plate of Pommes Frites, and they allowed him to return the plate later that evening! The place was still hopping at 1am!
Our apartment is perfectly located and perfectly appointed with everything we could possibly need. Except air conditioning. While we are not ready to leave Annecy, we won’t miss the sweaty nights.
