Day 16: Travel to Switzerland
Day 16: Travel from Annecy to Grindelwald
Today we left our beloved Annecy for a spectacular drive into the Swiss Alps. I had the less than excellent idea to stop halfway in the city of Lausanne. Remembering it as more quaint, we ventured into a busy city with zero park options for our lunch. With two hangry kids, we decided to venture right back out, and stop later.
By the grace of God, we stopped just shy of the city limits at an excellent lunch spot called Brasserie de Paudex, where the kid’s meals were the prices of their ages. Given that everything is so expensive in Switzerland, this was a nice way to start things off on the right foot.
We drove another hour to Interlaken, marveling at the scenery as we ascended into the alps. A favorite of both Aarons and mine in our college years, we stopped to visit the city, but the boys were too tired to do much more than play soccer in a field. They begged us to just pull over so they could go to a park. So, we did. Aaron and I sat on a bench and watch the paragliders come in, and the boys played soccer.
We then ventured up to Grindelwald, our home for six days. We stopped to grab groceries on the way to our place, recognizing meals will be far more expensive in Switzerland and we’ll do a lot of our eating at home. Our VRBO apartment is a chalet that was built in 2016, and it is by far the nicest place we’ve stayed. The views are magnificent, with our back porch overlooking Mount Eiger. The beds are super comfy, with large down comforters and much cozier mattresses than we’ve experienced thus far. Hermann, the owner, has dialed this place in! We have everything we need to cook meals, a wide open set-up and a modern style. We’re in Heaven!
We tucked in early after a long day of travel, excited for adventures in Switzerland to unfold.
