Day 24 - Travel to Salzburg
Day 24 - Travel to Salzburg
We allowed ourselves a slow start this morning, with an 11am checkout and healthy breakfast at Cafe Lumee, a vegan smoothie bar that hit the spot! I had the best coconut milk cappuccino I’ve ever had, and had to get one for the road. Peter kindly checked us out and helped us navigate the carport, a first for us. This carport requires you to drive onto a car elevator, then wait for the green light, and it descends into the ground. Unfortunately, Aaron and Colton got stuck in the basement and couldn't read the German to get out on their own. Peter came to our rescue, and we were on our way to Salzburg.
The drive to Salzburg through the Bavarian Alps was stunning, and we rocked it out to One Republic, continued our riddle game, and also had some rough moments per usual these past few days. All in all, we made it into the city in three hours, and greeted Wilfred, a German tax attorney who now owns three flats in the Alstadt of Salzburg. And his flats are huge. This was the last VRBO I’d booked, having chosen to stay in Salzburg after a Christmas time conversation with my sister, Lara and niece, Alaina. It was difficult to find an apartment near the attractions, so this place was a bit of a splurge. It paid off. An entryway, two large bedrooms, a large kitchen, a dining area and a living room overlooking the Alstadt view of the fortress and the city's cathedrals, it is the nicest place we’ve stayed. Given that we’ve spent 23 days together without a break, the extra space will do us some good as well.
We attempted to convince the boys to grab dinner at the Monestary turned brewery behind our place, but they were not in the mood for Germany street food. Much to Aaron’s chagrin, we instead journeyed to the SPAR grocery store to grab dinner supplies. I made Mexican food while the boys watched a movie and Aaron and I enjoyed the views of downtown Salzburg at night. I ended up staying awake until the wee hours of the morning, in search of alone time and enjoying a new book I’d picked up on Peter’s shelves of random books left behind by guests.
