Day 7: Seville, and the end of week one
Day 7: Seville, and the end of week one
We are staying in the Bario de Santa Cruz, Seville’s old Jewish quarter. With white alleys and patios everywhere, it is an incredibly picturesque area of the city. I have fallen in love the the various doors, mostly made of different types of wood with gold embellishments. Only blocks from the Cathedral, we could wander the streets for hours.
Per our usual Spanish schedule, we didn’t lift our heads off our pillows until nearly 9am. On our way to the supermercado this morning, we decided we were way too hungry to shop. So we found a great fresh breakfast spot that included fruit and muesli bowls, smoothies and croissants. After that, we found ourselves close to the Setas de Seville, the Metropol Parasol ultramodern structure created between 2005 and 2011. It is the largest wooden structure in the world, and the observation deck provides soaring views of all of Seville. We bought our tickets, and climbed all across the structure in the 90 degree sun.
After our visit to the Setas, we did some shopping in local boutiques. Colton has been searching for a silver cross and chain, and we’ve had to divert his attention from junk along the way. Today, he finally found what he was looking for, and bought himself his necklace right outside the Seville Cathedral. How fitting! Zachary bought a silver chain too. It’s giving us quite a laugh that these boys like shopping and jewelry as much as their mother!
There is a supermarket only two blocks from our apartment, where we bought breakfasts and lunches for the rest our time here. We then came back to the apartment, made a little lunch, and Aaron did some light work while the boys made water balloons and tossed them down onto our terrace, making quite a mess!
Tonight’s activities included a walk around the neighborhood, and a search for another great tapas restaurant for dinner. After some whining and a solid case of the hangries, we paid a visit back to Pelayo Bar for another delicious dinner. Elena was our waitress again, and shared that she is studying French and will be living in Paris next year. We’ve had fun meeting locals in each spot and getting to know them personally.
Tonight marks the finish of week one, and I couldn’t be happier with how well its gone and how we’ve spent our time together. Kids are still kids while you’re traveling. There is bickering and jabbing, messes are made, and they get hyper at the worst times. However, all in all, I am in awe of what travel warriors they are and how much they are enjoying each other, as brothers. Seriously, this is a huge answer to many prayers. We’ve had wonderful traveling mercies, and we are truly grateful for this time together.
